Fostering educational exchanges between Canada and New England has been a hallmark of the MLF and the Ball for years. The Ball supports the annual Maple Leaf Student Exchange, which brings American students from a Boston public school to various Canadian cities and Canadian students to Boston. In addition, the MLF provides financial support to the Bridgewater State College Canadian Studies program to allow students to study at Canadian universities.
A new educational exchange focusing on postsecondary education was added in 2009. In collaboration with the Foundation for Educational Exchange between Canada and the United States (“Fulbright Canada”), the MLF recently established two new annual awards, under the auspices of the Killam Fellowship Program. These awards, starting in the 2010-2011 academic year, will enable one Canadian undergraduate student to spend a semester at a New England college or university, and one New England student to attend a Canadian university.
